I've attached my edit of one of the raw files you sent me of the G1X III. (Make sure you download the full size image.) I don't think there's anything wrong with the camera. Note that I pushed the sharpness and clarity adjustments a lot, resulting in some noise. That's a personal preference of mine since I don't view or print large images.
First of all thank you for your time!
I like the edit.
Considering that you shot this handheld, wide open in low light at ISO 400, I think the result is good. With a tripod, longer exposure, lower ISO, and smaller aperture, I think it would be tack sharp with little noise.

I do agree; however, my point was to carry as less is possible and at the same time getting a unique combination of size, zoom and weather sealing. However, I am still disappointed
I think a combination of EOS M100 or even M10 plus 23mm f2 pancake would be a much better performer and also very portable.
I got, actually, a very similar shot taken handheld (no IS as in Canon) with a small Ricoh GRII at higher for a bit ISO:
I deliberately kept the bluish WB as I like it this way
The images are taken on different days and can't really be compared except that when I viewed them full size, the Canon's is substantially sharper (but also noisier). I like the cloud color and detail very much in the Canon picture and would be interested in how it compares to the Ricoh and Sony taken at the exact same time.
I don't like the perspective correction being applied to the Ricoh. The wide buildings are leaning too much to the sides (I think it's pincushion distortion) and not in a manner consistent with how the thin ones are. I think the vertical distortion (buildings falling back) in the Canon's image gives a much more dramatic look. I don't know if that was your choice (in which case, that's fine) or if the Ricoh does that in-camera, which would be disappointing.
