That is a very general statement that doesn't hold water for every user. It really depends on what you consider important. Marginalizing the importance of IQ, AF, video and specific frequently used features and over emphasizing the user interface isn't reflective of how many of us choose a camera.

I understand that some people will place more emphasis on touchscreens, menus, etc than others which is why it isn't a one-size fits all. The real winner of "real-world camera utility" will vary from user to user and it won't always be Canon. To believe that the Canon cameras offer such a better user interface that you should ignore the other important differences is probably not realistic for the average buyer and may only apply to the most loyal Canon users.
