How does the G7X II play in auto mode?

My visiting friend shared with me that after a couple of vacations, she was wanting of a camera other than her iphone mainly to get some zoom. I showed her my G7X (I) and some pictures (of course only my keepers) and it seems she would be willing to spend the money for one. The thing is, she's not very technically inclined to experiment and I'm sure the camera would largely stay in auto mode. In that regard, in a variety of shooting situations, how well does the G7X play in auto? I don't use it myself but I know in P mode, the camera likes to pick low apertures even at the expense of ridiculously high shutter speeds in well lit conditions.

Are there other cameras I should recommend? The size of the G7X is ok but I don't think she wants to go any bigger. The only other consideration that comes to mind is the Panasonic TZ100 which comes to trading more zoom for slower lens. With the fast lens, I think you're going to get more keepers with a G7X although the TZ100 clearly has a better movie mode (we didn't bridge that subject). I find Canon SOC shots to be a bit more warm and pleasing than Panasonic. I thought about G9X but if size is not an issue, the G7X is better with the more zoom and faster lens. I can't think of any lesser (cheaper) cameras that are going to give a combination of a fast lens and a decent sensor.

Thoughts?
