Re: Caution: Use the Canon LH-DC110 with the G1X III

I don't think the lens hood adds bulk - it's the same diameter as the lens ring. It's made of the same black aluminium and I think it adds to the high quality feel of the camera. It's a nicely made accessory.

I screw my 49mm ND filter directly to the lens hood and it works fine.

I definitely agree that the hood is low profile as far as hoods go. But it does add almost 1/2" of depth to a camera that is already on the big end of being "pocketable". If pocketability is not a major concern, than the lens hood is a great size. It is also solidly made and threads on/off very smoothly.

UV and ND filters are definitely no problem in the hood. But those don't need to rotate. Using a CPL requires getting your fingers in there constantly, which is a problem. And CPLs are pretty common, especially since the G1X III already has a built-in physical ND filter.

I just wish Canon, Sony, and all the high-end compacts would start including official filter threads. It seems like an easy way to help further differentiate from lower-end P&S and smartphones.
