Out of curiosity, why would one buy a K50 when there are so many better/newer options like even KS2..unless of course it is price point. But then you say you are also gong to get a better body later

Price was the main factor. It would have cost me another $200 or so to get the KS-2, etc.

Plus, I was familiar with the K50 having used one for some time. I already had some extra batteries, remote control and AA adaptor. The K-S2 cannot use AA batteries. I know I can get good images from it too. Not having to spend extra on it allows me to continue to save for one I really want down the road. It will serve as my weather resistant stop-gap so to speak.

A camera that takes AA batteries is a godsend, one of the most important reasons why I bought a Pentax K30.

I have Eneloop AA pros, lithium batteries and others always as back-up. Sometimes I can't charge the original battery for days.

I have 2 wasabi batteries in addition to the pentax one and have never felt the need for any AA as one of them is always charged.

AA batteries have saved me more than once while in the wilds. I agree for day shooting there usually is not a problem.  I like having the option though.
