That is your right, though in many respects it is misleading.

European sales taxes are rarely less than 20%. USA taxes are rarely more than 8.75% and in a handful of States they are nil.

You are of course right about tax - but we are talking about the cost of products generally - the fact that you as a consumer can pay a lot less in US for the same product speaks volume about life in the US. US may not have a federal sale tax or VAT but they do have an import duty approximately 4.6%

Ah yes, I forgot about that. That duty is about the same here. Might even be a bit higher for lenses.

Or... maybe only for lenses.
