Focus calibration for Sigma: whats the best way?

So i have a 24-35mm that is having focus issues so i wanted to calibrate the lens. I did plenty of googling and noticed that there are several ways to approach this so i wonder, what do you personally recommend?

As for my focus issues, i cant tell if i am having front or backfocus issues since i had unreliable / bad results while shooting close and far away. That is also something i have to determine properly.

Before i forget, should i set the in camera focus setting to 0 for the calibration and keep it afterwards?

Thank you for your help.
