I have just bought the Sony 100-400mm GM for my Sony 7m3 but I need more reach for small birds. Does anyone have any experience with either of the two tele-converters offered by Sony?

How good is the IQ when these teleconverters are attached.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The glass itself is really VERY sharp - I have the 2x for my 100-400 GM.

The IQ losses actually stem from your inevitably higher ISO settings due to the f11 limitation (obviously things get worse faster in poor light).

Just for fun I shot swallows catching insects on the wing with my 2x TC/100-400 GM combo on my A9. The shots that I was able to get truly amazed me!

(Those birds were moving so fast - it's really a tribute to the capabilities of the incredible Sony A9)

For stationary subjects when you can use lower shutter speeds there are really very few negatives.

The 2x has 2 stops of loss, the 1.4X has 1 stop.
