With the Nikon D850 you most certainly do.

Till you work this out you are probably better off with AF-S so you know the camera thinks the image is sharp. If the camera thinks the image is sharp and it's not then you will know you need to use the USB dock to adjust the lens. You don't need a pro to do this, just be patient.

Yes.

Not really, it locks when you release the button.  There is room for error and this is a concern here
