I guess the suggestion really depends on the subject, and how you fly as well.

I shot with doors off heli in the past, and looking back to all the photos I got, I am most happy with the results from 70-200 range.  The 24-70 did yield some interesting images too, but I felt going wider may not be fruitful for me.

I felt a fast shutter speed is still important(even it's a common sense) when using my 70-200.  Don't ever hesitate to pause a few seconds here and there, zoom in 100% to double check motion blur if you have to.

One tip I found useful is to ask the pilot to circle around point of interest, especially over water, sometimes the reflection on water/direction of light yield very different feel to the same subject when viewed differently.

Some heli have pre-fixed go-pro mount on-board, so if they provide it and you have it, do consider bringing one on board.
