Gitzo Models (Previous Generations vs Current)

Specifically i'm curious about the 1348 vs the current 2542.

The 2542 looks great on paper, I wonder how it holds up in real life.

The key stats i'm looking at between the 2 are height, weight, and load capacity.

1348:

  • Max Height: 65.7"
  • Weight: 4.8#
  • Load Capacity: 26.5#

2542:

  • Max Height: 54.7" (65.7" w/ center column extended)
  • Weight: 3.7#
  • Load Capacity: 39.6#

The 1348 is a bit of a beast - it takes up a lot of space and is relatively heavy. I used one for my heavy cameras for a number of years, but i never really enjoyed the physical size of it.

The 2542 has a significantly higher load capacity and is a full pound lighter. It's appealing that a 2542 w/ head will be <= just the weight of the 1348 legs.
