Wide open doubts...

I'll be shooting the Milky Way early next week with a Fuji mirrorless camera and the Rokinon 12mm f2. All the advice I've seen online says to shoot wide open with this and really just about every other lens used for astrophotography. However this lens like just about all other lenses sharpens up significantly even if stopped down only a touch. Has anybody done any tests comparing This lens at f2 versus for example F 2.4 or F 2.8? Obviously I realize I'm penalizing myself with less light and consequently more noise with a higher ISO or risking star trails with a longer shutter speed but I'm wondering if the gain in sharpness is going to be worth it? It will be difficult to do tests in the field to compare critical levels of sharpness because I won't have a computer or anything bigger than the camera screen to make comparisons.

Thanks!!
