Buying lens for Canon EOS M#
2

I had received a Canon EOS M3 from college. I have yet to buy any decent lenses for it because from what I understood because it is mirrorless you cant use just any lens. Right now I shoot with the Canon 18-55 kit lens and a 35mm michael lens. I am looking to buy some new lenses but I have some questions.

I am looking on ebay and amazon,

how do I know which lens will work with my camera as most I have found do not go into detail.

How do I know if the lens will fit without an adapter? If I need an adapter how do I know which size I need?

I was looking at the nifty 50 canon lens, tamron lens and a few other ones that were in my price range. (which is not alot) I am a mother of 4 kids so money is tight however I want to expand my lenses. I shoot mostly portraits, babys, mostly outdoors. I want a lens that has low apature and creamy soft depth of feild. I currently am able to do this in photoshop but having a lens that can do it better would be great.

I am also curious about macro lens. I want to be able to take some really crisp up close shots of bugs.

any recomendation on lens would be great! including links. I am new at alot of the termonology here and also buying lenses and knowing which does what.
