The Nikon is an ancient lens that seems like it should be due for an update.

The Sigma 14mm 1.8 ART apparently suffers from coma so has to be stopped down to 2.8, so there's no point to buying that.

Any thoughts?

The Nikon 14-24 is excellent.  The only improvement I can see from an update would be electronic aperture control.  I would not hesitate to buy it now, if you want it.

However, if your interest is astro, I suggest you try (rent) the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 art before crossing it off your list.  I do not think the coma is as bad as you believe.

You give up zoom flexibility,  but you get more light gathering (and lower cost, if that matters).
