If you have perfectly positioned your camera towards your subject (perfectly parallel) and then the left and right hand side are not equally sharp, then your lens seems decentred.

If your testing isn't flawed (user error) then I would try to exchange the lens. Otherwise you will always look at the right corner and be disappointed.

Even at f2.8 both edges should have the same sharpness. My Canon 16-35/4 is sharp edge to edge at f4.
