Newbie question re stitching: I understand the need for a level tripod, but does the camera need to be leveled on the tripod?

Say you're at a highter elevation than your subject and want to point downward. Does this work with stitching?

Landscapes without a subject up close in the foreground never require a tripod and tilting the camera up or down is never a problem.

When you have close foreground subjects in the image things start to get trickier. Perspective will change with a wider lens pointed up or down with something close to the lens.
