The RX100 VI looks great, but has a few letdowns - no grip (compared to the excellent ergonomics of the A2), poor battery life at 240 shots per charge, no hotshoe, no mechanical zoom ring, ...

For those reasons, I'd say it's more a practical successor than a spiritual successor   (The RX10-I & II are probably closer to the spiritual successors of the 'A' models, to the extent the spirit of those old cameras lives on.

I had a Sony F717 back in the days of the 2/3" prosumer digicams.  I remember meeting up with one guy who had an A2 and loved it.  It was a neat camera, bristling with controls.

On the other hand, image quality is probably better than most DSLRs from the A2 era,

Aside from the inability to shoot shallow DOF, I think the 1" sensors are more capable than those old 6MP DSLRs.

I want one, but I'll wait for the price to drop.

Hopefully you'll be able to get one !  (They are pricey ... I bought my RX100-I during one of the early price drops to $450, and my RX10-III was an open box special for $700 ... I'd have a hard time justifying the prices of the newer models of either line).
