X-E3 returned with internal battery problem
Jun 13, 2018
5 days ago I got my new X-E3. Slapped a battery in, stuck on a lens and spent a few hours monkeying around with the camera, getting familiar with the new features that my E1 doesn’t have.
Having to move on to other things in life besides messing with cameras, I swapped the battery for a freshly charged one and left the camera on my desk overnight. Next day, I picked it up to have a look through some new glass and when I turned the camera on it had gone back to the “pick langauge”, set date and time mode. I thought it was strange, but I humored the camera set the basics again, then noticed all my personal settings had also vanished. Hmmm.
Thinking it hadn’t had enough time to charge the internal backup battery, I went on with life, leaving the camera with a freshly charged battery overnight. Next day, same thing. Pull the battery to do a swap and loose everything...sigh.
After digging around on Fuji’s website I found a customer service number, called it and described what was going on. The tech said, I had either a bad internal battery or a bad power board. Either way allowing that the camera was brand new, he recommended just exchanging it for another rather than heading down the repair route.
Today the camera is going back. I bought it on Amazon, so the return is no-brainer easy and they’ve already shipped my replacement; it should be here tomorrow.
The entire episode isn’t very satisfy as you can imagine. I wonder if I wasn’t already deeply commited to the X system whether this would bump me to another brand. I dunno.
Regards,
Kevin

Opted into the Fuji X system big time. Like to travel light and shot quick; that's why I also have a Richo GR....
