a99ii inconsistent focus?

I swap lenses. A lot. Five or six times per outing, maybe more. After over a year with my a99ii, AF was starting to be very inconsistent. Everything would start great, in AF-C mode with face tracking and expandable flex-spot (highly recommended for people in motion), all the little green squares blink to follow the focus point, with a big square whenever a face is detected. Almost every shot in perfect focus.

Then, after 10 shots or so, AF just stops altogether.

"Arggg! My lens is broken!" thinks I.

This notion is reinforced when I swap lenses, and everything works perfectly again... for 10 more shots.

"Arggg! My camera is broken!" thinks I.

On a whim, I gave the contact points a couple of gentle swipes with a stiff piece of cardboard, both on the camera and each lens. Now everything works perfectly again.

Moral: Don't yell "Arggg!" at the top of your lungs when photographing an elementary school play.
