Milky Way Hunting at Fort Griffin, Texas with the X-H1
36

Here are a few  shots taken at Fort Griffin, Texas that I feel are worthy of sharing. I believe all of these were taken with the Rokinon 12mm on the Fuji X-H1. ISO was 1600-2000 and exposure times were 20-25 seconds.

The Rokinon exhibits a bit of coma and in some shots I left the coma in because I actually thought the photo looked better with it than without it.

The LED panel used was a rather small $90 unit. On low power the panel can run for over 12 hours continuously and ;you can adjust the temperature of the light. I have found that mounting the light source a great distance from the subject presents a better photo with subtle shadows and light. In these shots the panel was about 50-60 yards away from the subject and provided a good wash of light in the area it was aimed.

I visited an old abandoned bridge but found it was too late in the evening and the light pollution from Albany was not to my liking. A few are included here.

I may return to Fort Griffin a few more times but feel I have pretty much exhausted the location. I am more apt to head to the desert southwest in the future.. but that will be a longer trip than the over-nighter that produced these shots.

If you would like a little history about the old fort click here.
