8K TVs will be along in a few years, and photos of landscapes or cityscapes are good for zooming in and scrolling around -- so you want high resolutions anyway, even if you never print.

Not only are finer detail TV/Monitors in the future but those that will use Adobe RGB so there's nothing that today is specific to online that will be sufficient for tomorrow's technology. Print will just have less viewers.
