The 18-135 seems nice, but is it $500 worth of nice?

So I recently found out there's new(4months...) all-in-one-ish Sony APSC lens making rounds, the 18-135mm, and that got me quite interested. I've been doing some quick research and it seems to be superior than the kit lens, the 55-210, and comparable to the $600 18-105mm. Compact and sharp, OSS and native mount, sounds like a winner for someone who might be traveling and doesn't like changing lens often to get that shot.

But...$500 represents a significant investment for me, are there any alternative at this price range that's comparable to Sony's offering? How does it compare to say the Sigma 18-300 with adapter? Is the IQ on the 18-135 really that good?
