X-E3 with V 1.2 Firmware-PC Connect Fails

I just got an X-E3; the FW that came with the body wasn't the latest so I upgraded it to 1.2, the latest on the Fuji site.

Among other things this FW added a "PC Connect-USB" option under "Connections" in the menu, with suboptions "SD Card" and "RAW Processing/Backup" (I may be off on the exact wording, but should be close enough). This should allow the camera to connect to a computer (Windows/Mac) via USB cable and enable the latest version of X-RAW to see it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. I use a USB cable designed for data (I've tried several, including one used for a similar purpose with my RX1R II), it's less than 1.5 feet long and I plug it directly into the computer, not a hub. Nevertheless, all that happens is that a green light on the camera blinks and blinks; the rear LCD screen is completely black,  no icons or messages showing. I've rebooted the computer, tried both in the native MAC OS (Sierra 10.12) AND in a Windows 10 virtual machine. I've turned the camera upside down, plugged the cable into the computer while standing on my head, everything, and nothing seems to work.

Now, yes, I CAN transfer images successfully by just plugging the SD card directly into the back of my iMac, XRAW sees files on the computer and processes them normally, but, you know, I PAID for all this and I'd like to see the camera connect via USB to the computer as it's supposed to.

Has anyone with this setup been successful using the new USB facility of the X-E3?

Thank you in advance for any info.
