a7III battery door seal improvement

The first place to leak on the bottom of the camera with the a7III (and many other a7x cameras) is the little cutout in the battery door. It's not hard to fix that. Here's what you need:

Squeeze a little silicone on and around the door. If you get it where it shouldn't be, you can scrape it off with a toothpick. Don't worry if you have a bit too much, because after it's dry you can trim it with an Xacto knife. Let it dry for 12 hours.

It will look like this:

Note that the cutout is covered, and the seam around the cutout is also covered. There's also a bead on the outside that continues the line of the seal on the door, filling in the break that occurs there with the stock camera.

Here is the inside-out view of the door mounted on an RRS plate.

If you do this, you'll gain more than 1/8 inch worth of short-term protection in case you set your camera down in standing water. The top of the battery-door hinge then becomes the next easy entry for water.
