Hi all,

I study insects so would like to invest in a macro lens that's suitable for moths, butterflies, caterpillars, spiders etc.

For those subjects you just have to get either the 90 or the 100mm for the extra working distance.

In fact my very favorite butterfly/dragonfly lens is the 300 f/4L IS with an extension tube (something to keep on your wish list for the future). Miles of working distance and tons of gob-smacking bokeh...

Save room in your bag for the incredible MP-E65mm for later though...

.

But definitely start out with the 100mm (or equiv) Jack of all Trades...

100L Macro. Click on "original size"

Happy shopping!

ps. I'd very highly recommend using (diffused) flash, esp when starting out. It'll help combat both camera shake and subject motion blur.
