I can assure you, no distress is caused. A lens is a lens and barring any further complications like protruding rear elements, anything with a flange distance longer than 18mm should be technically compatible with the ef-m mount. It doesn't matter when it was designed, all a lens does is gather light. Assuming the "release shutter without lens" menu item is ticked, it will work with anything and auto-meter exposure based off of the amount of light hitting the sensor, not an electronically communicated aperture value. Please do not spread mis-information!

Source: I have used my M10 with many adapted and quite old lenses (FD, ltm, F, etc.)

Edit: Also Prime lenses will not work better, just the same, and you do not need to set the camera menu to mf, simply focus the lens manually and take the photo.
