I doubt my 18-55. At times I think it's outstanding, but then when failures arise I can't clearly attribute them to the lens, camera, or technique. I don't have such doubts about any other lens I have, otherwise. So I use mine here and there, just to see, but I have no confidence in it.

For you to have confidence in yours, expect wide open at either end of the zoom range not to be at its best. Be sure your focus area won't pick up background elements, and give OIS with a 1/2 press of the shutter a moment to settle in before the full squeeze of the shutter to get the exposure.

That's exactly how I feel about my 18-55. I have 100% confidence in all 10 of my other Fuji lenses - if there's a problem it's invariably user error. Not so with the 18-55 - too many unexplained soft images..yet still plenty that are sharp. My suspicion is OIS settling time or random vibration (even when off).

Me too!

Over the last 4 years I worked with 4 different 18-55 on X-E1, X-2S, X-T1 and X-T2. Unfortunately 3 of 4 delivered at least 2 oft 10  "out of focus" photos.

I send 2 of this unreliably lenses to the Fujifilm Service. Both came back with a comment "testet and within the manufacturer specification"

I tested 3 XC 16-50 and there were no AF- problems.
