A bit of advice wouldn`t go a miss please
Jun 3, 2018
First off, I`m an old timer. I own a G7 and a FZ1000. I must be honest I also have a Fuji XT2 mainly for the colours. My pleasure now days is to shoot video and at this time of year wild flowers. So, I`ve been shooting video with the xt2 at fast frame rate re the latest firmware up grade. I`ve been shooting a clip at a near focus point and then a second clip at a distance, putting them on the time line one after the other with a fade in between and it`s not bad but the transition can be a bit off. Then I remembered that my G7 has a touch screen where you can change the focussed point whilst shooting 4K or FHD. I have always kept the touch screen turned off because I found that I was always touching it when I didn`t want to but after a bit of playing around today in the garden I realise just how smooth the transition can be and the clips look really good when you get it right. Slowing the clip down in power director and being careful gives a really decent clip. As good as the XT2 is, the transition when you move the joystick around is more jerky.
So, I have found using my 25 f1.4 Leica Pana lens pretty wide open gives a good separating effect between foreground and background as far as flowers are concerned and my 12-35 and 14-140 do a good job for views with a greater separation. Some of the later Panasonics have probably been improved as far as video goes and I think from memory the GH5 has quite an array of fast shutter speeds that would really lend it`s self to slow motion although buying a new expensive camera is not really on the cards right now.
Is there a better camera for what I`m doing that wouldn`t break the bank? I`m a bit out of touch as far as Panasonic goes.
Any advice on anything shooting this kind of video would be very much appreciated. I`m totally self taught so would like to cut a few corners if poss. OH! and the first thing I did was to cut my finger nails because the G7 screen really responds well to finger skin rather than nails I`ve found out.
Sorry for the long post but you guys probably have all the answers and some suggestions that would help.
