Processing RAWs from smartphone cameras

Hi,

I've recently discovered that I was able to shoot RAW on my smartphone without the need to root (it's a couple of years old), and gave it a shot.

I was surprised by the fact that the jpeg engine made a splotchy mess trying to eliminate luminance noise, but completely disregarded chrominance noise, which was very apparent, but easily fixable with a minor correction in my RAW editor of choice.

Another thing that left me quite perplexed is the fact that WB and tint both vary drastically from highlights to shadows... and that's more difficult to address in PP (I tried split toning, will try curves).

What are your experiences? Any tips you are willing to share?

I've searched a bit on the internet, but only found demented click-catching blog posts that promised to tell how to develop "smartphone RAWs", but either repeated once more some very basic concept (what's a histogram... duh!) or simply made a list of RAW developing software for PC and Mac.

None of them actually tried to explore the differences between a 10-bit and a 12- or 14-bit RAW, suggested special procedures etc.
