Simon, that is an OUTSTANDING review!

Its so refreshing to read a practical review written by someone who can provide a quantitative comparison while explaining whether the measurable result matters in practical use. Anyone considering this lens should read your review. Bravo!

I use my 85 f/1.8 more than my other lenses combined, and while the f/1.4 was tempting, I chose the 24-70 f/2.8. Fixed length photography has its drawbacks, such as when a crowd of people gather for a shot... 85mm can’t cut it. Maybe I’ll rent the f/1.4 sometime or borrow it from Canon. I hope I didn’t make the wrong choice; I usually buy one lens a year and this was the year of the 24-70.

Thanks for the kinds words, it really means a lot! The 24-70 f/2.8 is a great lens, a lot more versatile than the 85.
