Since you have the latest firmware, and have determined it is correct for your SD1 Merrill, and you still have some autofocus issues, there is always the possibility to adjust the autofocus function optically inside the mirror box.

This is something I never tried, although others swear by it.

I no longer have my SD1 (non Merrill) but maybe some SD1M owners reading this thread have done the optical calibration adjustments and can comment further on this.

Tom I think my auto-focus issue might be a firmware incompatibility issue with my 17-50mm f2.8 EX OS lens, rather than the camera. I'm sure my lens is probably one of the early lenses, and if I sent it to Sigma they would update the firmware, and then it would probably work fine after that. I've recently tried the camera with a new lens, and the auto-focus seems to work fine with that new lens, but the old version of SPP I normally use doesn't handle the images without producing color casts, so now I have to use the latest version of SPP 6 when I process images I shot with that lens.

This brings me to something I have just thought about. The newer Quattro cameras are still getting firmware updates, so their OOC jpegs will not have the color casts that the SD1 and SD1 Merrill produce. Since those cameras don't really produce great jpegs anyway, it's really not that big of a deal . . . but I sure would love to see an update to the firmware in the SD1 and SD1 Merrill, since we can still buy a brand new one from their website today.

I think it's about time for a new update of the SD1 Merrill firmware, which should improve the OOC jpeg images (making them less blurry) and fix the color cast issues that are surely happening with the latest lenses. Wouldn't it be cool if they add DNG capability to the SD1 Merrill?
