That is an excellent package to start with and it might be all you ever need as these lenses are just flat out fantastic performers. I own them all and am very pleased with the photos they can produce. They offer a nice combination of image quality while being small and lightweight to carry around. As I get older, not having to carry a lot of heavy gear is something I desire more and more. You might consider adding the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 prime lens to this set. I will give you more low light shooting capability on the wider end and it is very economical to purchase.

It is one I like also. Her name is Lily and she is a three legged wonder. She was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2017 and did six months of chemo after her rear right leg was amputated. So far she has beaten the odds and we are blessed to still have her with us.

This photo was taken when she likes to lay on her window bed in the morning sun. It also shows how much bokeh you can get at 45mm with a f/6.3 aperture setting. The newer, smaller EF-S 18-55mm f/4.0-5.6 is such a wonderful lens to use. IMO, it punches way above the $87 price I paid for it.

Interesting info. about the lens. I bought the SL2 yesterday. It came with the lens though I figured I'd stick with my Sigma 17-50 for a kit lens. I've read great things about the new Canon kit lens and your message makes me think I should try it out.

Sure. I shoot raw and edit all my pictures in Lightroom. I took 63 pictures yesterday (right after buying the camera). These are a few of my 3 favorites.

I was a little sloppy editing the pine tree picture but the grain around the needles mostly disappears if you download the higher quality JPEG.
