Because Live Composite requiers you to press the shutter twice.Also you take pic after pic with nothing on it. A lightning trigger registers the first phase of a lightning bolt (the lightning finding its way down and up, not being the main bolt) it shoots and that is good. Also lightning bolts usually strike quickly after the first strike. So with a trigger you do not just shoot and wait to see, shooting countless pics with nothing on it.
Of course there is no movement at all with a lighting trigger.

With a stroboscope lightning shower however Live Composite indeed works well, because there are so many strikes you won't get as much pics with nothing on it. But with a storm that is less intense a trigger mostly gets you far more usefull pics.
