WA 16-35 - f/2.8 GM better than f/4?

Hi, I have limited experience in the Sony system as I've just got an A7R3 for my landscape photography. I am mainly using my EF 16-35 f/4 L IS with an MC-11 adapter and I might soon replace it with a Sony lens.

The Canon is as good as it goes on the Sony but I am concerned that the combo is not strong enough for weather sealing. In my first outing I've already been hit by a huge wave and for my type of photography it happens quite often. I understand that both the f/4 and the GM are good in this department.

Now my specific questions GM vs Sony f/4:

1) Is the GM an astro lens? How is coma? If it's good I could sell my Rokinon 14mm and live with loosing 2mm at the wide end

2) Is there any difference at landscape apertures (f/8 to f/16) ?

3) Finally the price of the GM is quite steep and for the same money I am thinking I could get the f/4 and the 12-24 G which should be quite a bit of fun.

Below my first outing with A7R3 and Canon 16-35.
