K-1 vs K1 Mark II Autofocus Test by Japanese Blogger
1

Hi, I shared a link over a week ago about a Japanese blogger doing image comparison between K-1 and K-1 II and now the same blogger has posted his AF comparison test between the two cameras. Here's the link:

http://blog.hisway306.jp/entry/2018/05/24/080000

Camera settings: AF.C, focus priority, Expanded AF(S), AF hold:off

Lens used : DFA150-450mm (set to 300mm crop mode for higher fps)

Comparison Hit rate shown below (K-1II vs K-1). Test 1-3 is for an approaching train. Test 4 for departing train. He mentioned the yellow-black pole may have somehow affected the test towards the end of the sequence in tests 1-2.

Test 1 : 61% vs 55%

Test 2 : 54% vs 51%

Test 3 : 67% vs 78%

Test 4 : 50% vs 45%

Last test (Test 5) was using Fujifilm X-H1 with a 73% hit rate.

His conclusion (from Google Translate): "It is a pretty loose test, so I do not feel like I was able to draw out the difference between K - 1 Mark II and K - 1 by themselves, but even if I dare explicitly search for a difference, the focusing rate is slightly K - 1 Although Mark II is getting better, it seems that there is a slightly lacking sense of stability, which may be removed even under simple conditions. This area may be getting better if you set "AF hold" which is said to have cleared algorithm clearly."

I think what he's trying to say is his test is not conclusive enough but he still thinks the K-1II performs slightly better. The results might have been better or more accurate if the AF Hold setting was used. ** I wish I still have my Nihongo skills intact but it's been over 25 years since my last stay in Japan.

For those using (K-3 like me) or K-3II here's his blog from 2015 on AF comparison - K-3II vs K-3
