Is Pentax hot shoe cover non-standard?

The Pentax plastic hot shoe cover is a couple of mm shorter than the Nikon one. I was wondering if the Pentax shoe fitting is shorter than standard, or is Nikon longer than standard? And of course whether all this causes any compatibility issues with 3rd party accessories...

I'm thinking of getting one of the Nikon ASC-01 clone metal covers off ebay for the K-1, but even though they say "for Nikon, Canon, Pentax" I have my doubts it will fit properly on the shorter Pentax shoe since my ASC-01 certainly doesn't.
