EF 70-200 f/4 (Non-IS): Repair or Replace?

So my 70-200 f/4 (non-IS) has not been focussing reliably over the past several weeks, up until this weekend when it stopped focussing entirely. Switched it to a different body -- same problem. So it's the lens and not the camera.

I love the lens. Have had it for maybe 8-10 years, using it solely for outdoor sports (youth soccer primarily). For my needs, the IS or 2.8 version is not necessary, so I want to either repair or replace this specific lens.

I sent it to Canon for an estimate this week. Estimate came back for $400 to fix a bent guide barrel assembly (not sure what that is).

With new ones running around $600, does it make sense to repair my copy for $400, or should I pay the additional $200 for a brand new copy? My wife doesn't see the point in repairing it.

Looking at refurbished stock, they haven't been available for almost a year, so it looks like either a new lens or repairing this one are my only options.  I could buy used, but then would not be sure of what I was getting.

Thanks!
