This you can do when you have a big DOF, or with a wide angle lens, but not with a 200mm ! This team let deliberately allow the camera do take a picture, even when the camera's AF say: I'm not spot on. Nothing else is this release priority.

It is our policy to test camera bodies with AF settings set to default. We will sometimes - when time is available and it is deemed editorially important - try various AF settings to see if we can get a better result, in which case we will report that.

With the Pentax K-1 II, we were not able to get better results with other settings.

We do not use Focus Priority (unless it's default, which has to our knowledge never been the case), as it would reward a camera that slows down its frame rate drastically just to get a better hit rate.

For example, Focus Priority on the 6D Mark II in LV (which you can only get to by setting Drive to Continuous Lo) drops the fps to 1-2 fps. We published the results in Continuous Hi (forced Release Priority) so you can assess the hit-rate near/at the stated continuous shooting rate of the camera.

It seems to us that that's the most relevant information to photographers: the hit-rate at/near the stated highest continuous frame rate - especially as many (most?) cameras are approaching 90% hit rates at this setting.

Feel free to feed back to us if you disagree with this philosophy, but it's the standard we apply to all cameras, and the standard we find is most useful to most photographers for most cameras, so can't really be interpreted as 'botched' testing.
