Any logic in Canon Powershot G7X M2 portrait modes?

I bought recently a Powershot G7X M2. I am very pleased with it.

It has several settings for portraits:
a) in P mode there is a "portrait" setting "ideal for close-ups. Softens skin and hair";
b) in Scenes there is also a "portrait" setting for "beautiful photos of people";

Scenes has in addition a portrait setting with "soft focus" and a portrait setting with "background out of focus".

I am a newcomer to the world of Canon and I cannot see any difference between  settings a) and b) nor do I understand why they are in different parts of the menu. I have taken photos in both modes and I cannot see any noticeable difference between them.

I would be grateful for comments from the experts among you, especially those who like photographing people.

ANSWER:
Canon PowerShot G7 X
