Poor pictures from 100/400 lens

I have been using this lens for around 4 to 5 years and have always managed to produce sharp images.  This past couple of weeks it has all gone to pot.  I am a keen nature watcher and like to record what I see and I do not normally have a problem taking shots of flying birds.

Yesterday I had a Barn Owl coming towards me head on and there was not a sharp image amongst them.

Today I had 2 male Marsh Harriers flying past at around 50 yards and every picture was fuzzy and I had to bin the lot.  The attached picture shows how soft it is, when it would normally be sharp.  I binned around 80 photo's.  These birds have never come as close as today and I lost every shot...they were all rubbish.

I use the same settings, I have never dropped or knocked the camera.

I would appreciate any advice.  Assuming I have to have it looked at.....any tips as to where to go or where not to go?

Thanks for reading.
