I am looking at some used 70-200 2.8 lenses and am confused about some markings/versions. What I think I am shooting for is the 70-200 2.8 VR II lens as reviews seem to say it was better than earlier versions. I am seeing some 70-200 2.8 G II versions but not a lot of info on them. How do the G II versus VR II contrast? Does one focus closer than the other as that may help me decide?

The lens you are considering is called the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II.

It replaced the earlier AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G VR, and was itself replaced by the current AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E VR FL.
