The Merrill chip doesn't like any lenses but Sigma's newest ones. Any old or non Sigma lenses will produce a mild to heavy magenta cast. This is perfectly normal. You need to buy a modern Sigma lens to see the SD1M at it's best. I would recommend you look for a good used Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro as it's an excellent optic, but any Sigma lens made in the 21st century will work.

BTW, the SD1M is the only Sigma body that has this problem. The earlier SD9-15 bodies will work just fine with all earlier lenses, as will the new Quattro bodies.

Hey Mike, I believe that all Sigma 18-50mm lenses were made in the 21st century, because they were made for digital cameras. I have two that cause color casts on my SD1. (Just for your information.)

Interesting, which ones are those?
