Seems rather counterintuitive to say Fuji has dropped the ball on jpeg when you’ve gone and modified the standard jpeg settings. Perhaps you’ve dropped the ball?

I didn't say Fuji dropped the ball, I asked, and I also asked if I'm the one that set my XH1 jpegs incorrectly and honestly I haven't shot in jpeg in a very long time.

A +3 shadow setting will darken the shadows creating a harsher appearance to the image. For portraits, Fuji recommends pro neg high for outdoors and pro neg standard for indoors.

Okay got it that's probably where I messed up. Maybe by going the opposite way at -3 the skin tones will look much better? Based on your experience what has worked best for you?

Thanks.

Try following Fuji’s advice and see if the image is still not to your liking. I’d also humbly suggest taking into consideration titles for your future posts. Imagine being a colour engineer at Fujifilm and seeing your headline.

I have learned for my shooting to shoot H at 0 or -1and S as a negative 1 or 2, the amount negative depends upon the lighting.  Lower light means more negative.  I also have sharpness -2 and noise reduction -3 or -4.  I like the results.

I have always been obsessed with getting white balance done correctly while shooting and I use the program Perfectly Clear on my "keepers."  Frankly the results I get exceed anything I can do in RAW and it saves me hours.
