RX100: manual focusing with control ring

Hi.

I'm just getting to grips with my RX100 [as a novice user], so please bear this in mind with what I'm asking.

I want to do manual focusing using the control ring.

I have set the camera to use aperture priority ["A" on the dial], but can't really see how to focus sharply my image when outside and having to deal with sunlight and glare affecting what I can see on the LCD screen, and there also being no clear way of knowing when the sharpest state for an image has been achieved.

Please can you help me to:

1. correctly set-up manual focusing using the control ring, and,

2. how to use this setting well out in the field to capture sharp images.

Many thanks,

CrVMo
