Again a question about exposure and noise.

Hey guys, first off - this image was not planned. I saw an opportunity to catch a moment between my wife and daughter so I did. It was dark, and I didn't frame it up great.

Beyond that, what do you guys think of the noise in this shot? I brought the shadows up a good bit so I know that will produce noise. I'm just wondering if there was a better way for me to shoot this, which would result in less noise? Basically, I'm trying to learn. Would under exposing even more with lower ISO help? I'm not sure if there is a better way or not.

Anyway, below is a link to the original raw file for you to download. The image posted below is my very quick and dirty edit. Notice the noise in the shadows on the right hand side.
