Would you say there’s enough room to fit a filter ring onto the G7X and it still fit in the case? Or is it a really snug fit?

It's a nice comfortable fit. The camera is cocooned within the case, yet can be stored and removed from the case very easily. However, the protrusion for the lens on the case doesn't really have any spare depth to accommodate anything attached to the lens.

I would say you have around 1mm of depth to play with on the lens fitting. This allows the magnetic fasteners to operate effectively and securely. Anything less and I reckon that the front flap may not attach securely.
