Why are you worried by equivalence?

Just use your lens for what it is.

I, for one, would rather use a 35mm equiv than a 31mm equiv. To me, 31mm is closer to 28mm.

So?

Just use it for what it is. Is there a reason it has to be precisely 35mm? Is there a reason 31mm won't work?

Yes, it is one more step in from my comfort zone for 35mm.  If you are used to a particular focal length and know what will be in your frame before you bring the camera to your eye, it could be something that effects your shooting.  It is not a big deal to some, and it is a big deal to others. It really depends on how you shoot.
