The 24x35 format is a standard that is used as "calibrating base" to understand the differences between different formats. This is not a generation conflict question. Pretty much every vendor in this space provides the crop factor. It allows you compare the FOV over different formats, as well as the possible DOF.

I completely agree with this point. I do not care much about film, but to compare different sensor formats we need to pick a common denominator. Full frame seems like the obvious choice - (most) film shooters are happy, full frame digital shooters are happy, everyone else had something to talk about.

One correction though: full frame is a 24x36 mm sensor with a 2:3 aspect ratio (not 24x35 mm). The 35 mm format refers to film (specifically, the width of the film roll including the perforation on both sides).

Yikes, my bad! You are obviously right ;-). Thanks for catching this.

It reminds me of 1/2.3", 1/1.7", 1" etc... sensors not being anywhere near respectively 1/2.3", 1/1.7", 1" etc... Yep, their diagonal is about 1.5 times shorter than their nominal size suggests.

Back to the OP. Yes, the 23/2 is wider than 23/1.4 (by about 7%) and wider than 23mm on the 18-55 zoom (by about 6%) according to my own measurements.

My point is that this is consistent with the actual focal length of 21.5 mm already mentioned in this thread, assuming both 23/2 and the 18-55 are about right.

Now, take 21.5 mm and multiply it by 1.5, 1.52 or 1.531 (this is NOT the point) or whatever your favourite full frame conversion factor for Fuji is.
