I've been as caught up as anyone, I suspect, in regard to making a decision about whether to upgrade my K1 to a K1 Mark II. I've read most of the discussions -- even commented a time or two -- no doubt erroneously.
At some point I began thinking of adding an other system -- not replacing Pentex, mind you but adding a decent Olympus mirrorless camera to my Olympus DSLR collection. Why stick with Pentax only if it is going to drive me nuts? So I tore myself away from the angst and decided that perhaps an Olympus OMD-EM5 Mark II would be a good introduction to the serious mirrorless world. I began checking prices -- $799 -- not too bad -- I've got a couple of lenses from the time I hurt may arm and bought an Olympus EPM-2 -- but wait -- I would need an expensive SD Card, an extra battery, and would the kit-type lenses I bought with the EPM2 really do justice to the OMD-EM5? No, definitely not. I'd need the Zuiko 20-40mm Pro which costs $849 on Amazon or B&H. Then I read some more reviews: drat. The emphasis was on taking movies, filming roller derbies, catching crowd action, not on pristine image quality. The image quality, apparently, isn't nearly as good as any of my Pentax cameras. -- oh no!
I looked for my old Olympus E5, but the case I opened held my Pentax K5iis. Whoa! I haven't used that camera in a couple of months. The battery probably needs recharging; so I set about recharging it.
Shoot! Why did I get so worked up? All my Pentax cameras provide excellent image quality. Will the K1 Mark II will have better image quality than the K1? I don't think any one knows with certainty, and part of the reason for that is that the difference between the K1 and the K1 Mark II will be, whichever way it turns out, very slight. The final answer, if we get one, almost certainly won't affect the way I take photos or the results I see when I edit them in Lightroom 6.
Before the K1 Mark II anxiety, I felt anxiety over whether I was going to have to return my KP. But it performed admirably during my last hike yesterday.
Got to pick out a different lens for the hike tomorrow morning -- maybe the 16-85. The early morning will be "partly cloudy" -- no mention of rain, but I may as well take the 16-85. Got to get to bed early so I can get down to the river at about dawn. . . Life is good!
