MFD lenses - new designs vs. old designs

Hi,

One thing I noted is that lenses for the new 44x33 mm cameras tend to be more complex compared to older designs.

Just for the fun of it, I looked at Hasselblad's lens data for the 100/2.2 HC lens and the 90/3.2 XD lens.

The HC 100/2.2 is a quiet simple design that is not so great at full aperture, but improves significantly at f/5.6.

The 90/3.2 for the X1D is a much more complex design and it seems that it yields near optimal performance fully open.

Having a smaller sensor makes larger demands on the lens.

Fuji's lenses are even more complex, but some of that complexity may depend on Wibration Reduction (WR) using an additional group.

I prefer Hasselblad's data, as they present MTF data which is measured on lens sample, while I think Fuji's MTF data is calculated. So, comparing Fuji's and Hasselblad's MTF data is no really possible.

Best regards

Erik
